Presentation

ECOAF is a tool for designing future agroforestry plots, in order to produce management plans and simulate growth and competition for light. This tool, based on the CAPSIS modelling platform run by CIRAD AMAP, is primarily intended for agroforestry advisers.

CAPSIS: a shared core and modules

Developed over the last 20 years for forestry (more than 80 modules), but now available for agroforests (HiSafe module used by researchers, a project initiated by the team of Christian Dupraz, Maris Gosme and Isabelle Lecomte from the ABSYS unit).

Each module is co-developed by a group of modellers (who work with users to define requirements and models) and developers (who advise, negotiate and write), in a collaborative mode.

EcoAF designs agroforestry plots

Using one or more plots, users can create their own agroforestry scheme, either within a plot or in the form of a hedge, or both.

An interface is dedicated to the composition of each plot. The user creates lines, positions on the lines, then inserts trees on the positions as well as strips of vegetation between the positions. The user can import parcels from the CAP parcel register or create them from QGIS. Once the design has been completed, growth modules allow you to visualise the development of trees in terms of height and diameter, year after year.

Users can also view shading maps or calculate light interception by tree crowns.
